It was the pictures, he decided later. Those damned pictures.
He could've sworn he'd thrown them out in a fit of fury, purging his memories.
Each one ripped, burnt as he cursed under his breath.
The sting of tears and the memories that won't die, it never ends.
And he hates that he's weak enough to conveniently forget the last one, overlooked amidst the ashy ruins of all the other glossy prints.
The end of this...this thing they had. Forget it, move on. Celebrate the holidays, the falseness.
Start the New Year, forget the past. Hide the last picture again.
