Julia huffed out a breath as he pinned the brown curls back from his face. "Gabriel!" he called, throwing the bobby pin on the vanity, the pin bouncing off the glass of water on the surface with a muted ping.
"You bellowed?" Gabriel said as he walked into the bedroom.
"Yes," Julia said. "I need your help; I can't get these damned pins to work."
Gabriel eyed the mess of curls that bobbed and bounced in the breeze that was generated by the nearby fan. "I can try," he said. "Though why you bother with all this fussiness is beyond me."
Julia growled, his eyes flashing in annoyance. Gabriel grabbed the nearest pin and held it up between two fingers. "And where does this go?" he asked.
"Up your ass if you don't start helping me," Julia said. Gabriel grinned and twisted the section of hair up, pinning it carefully.
"Now, now, that's not very nice," he said, winking at Julia in the mirror. "You sound like a cranky five year old without the foot stomping."
"Ooh!" Julia hissed, narrowing his eyes at Gabriel. "You're pushing your luck, I'll have you know."
"Simmer down, love," Gabriel murmured as he pinned the curls, doing so from memory on where Julia usually arranged them. "Heat makes you cranky?"
"I'm not cranky!" Julia said, the pictures on the wall rattling.
Gabriel rolled his eyes, a gesture unnoticed by Julia. "Do you want a dip in the lake?" he asked. "This heat spell has to break eventually. Until then, I suggest we fritter our time away out there."
Julia started to protest, then closed his mouth and nodded. "Yes," he said. "This heat is murder on my hair," he said mournfully, eyeing the drooping curls.
Gabriel kissed the nape of his neck. "Think of this as an excuse for you to show me that new swimsuit you bought last week," he murmured.
Julia grinned and tilted his head to the side. "If I do that, we won't be spending any time in the water," he said. "You'll be ravishing me in moments."
"Nonetheless, I demand to see it," Gabriel said, pushing the last pin into Julia's hair. "There," he said, eyeing his work critically.
Julia tilted his head, checking the twists. "Nicely done," he said. "You would have made a wonderful hair dresser," he added with a teasing smirk.
"I haven't the patience for that," Gabriel said dryly. "I'd end up shaving the head of every stunningly beautiful shrew who sits in my chair."
Julia laughed softly and turned his head, kissing him. Gabriel cupped his cheek, his mouth opening to the heated kiss. "Away with you; go get dressed so I can strip you off in a fit of passion," he said between kisses.
Julia parted from him, swaying his hips ever so slightly as he walked to the closet. "Oh, Gabriel?" he called over his shoulder.
Gabriel looked at him in the mirror, one eyebrow raised in curiosity. Julia grinned and nodded to the glass of water, the cup lifting in the air and emptying itself over Gabriel's hair, his laughter filling the room at the look on Gabriel's face.
"You looked like you needed to cool off," he said with a small shrug, shrieking when Gabriel chased after him, intent on tossing him off the deck outside, clothes and all.
