Title: Hold On to This Life
Prompt #: 87 -Life
Rating: PG
Pairing (if any, or gen): None
Summary: Here I am just drownin' in the rain with a ticket for a runaway train…
Warnings: Not mine, no harm intended, no profit made.
xx
Jack stands in the rain, his face turned up to stormy sky, the cold droplets sliding over his skin. He smiles as the rain falls, dried blood flakes melting and running down his chin from his split lips. His smile is a grimace, a twisted mockery of pleasure.
He grips his battered duffel bag in one hand, his messy hair wet and lying limply along his forehead and neck. Thunder rumbles above him and the rain falls faster, pounding the pavement around him, his clothes slick and soaked through.
Jack opens his eyes and looks up to the rain falling on him, drowning and choking on the sobs caught in his throat. He swallows, a peal of bitter laughter escaping him as he feels the rain rush down harder. He laughs harder, tears slipping from his eyes, mixing and rushing with the rain.
His tears taper off on his discolored face. He grips his bag and smiles serenely, a look of peace in the midst of the storm, the concerned looks of the wet people near him unheeded. Jack whispers, his voice a choked rasp. The people stare at him, stare at this madman who laughs as he’s crying, the rain bitingly cold and unnoticed by him.
Life is what you make of it, Jack decides as he lifts his bag and walks into the train station.
He’s ready to go home.
