It's with a clenched fist, a bottle tightly gripped in the other hand, a sneer of disdain as he watches the couple on the dance floor. He's enraged though his face shows no emotion, none other than a careful façade of boredom. He leans back against the windows that line the club, the stars in the night sky overshadowed by the gleam of the neon lights that flash inside.
He can see Tyler looking somewhat uncomfortable near him, the sea of bodies on the floor writhing in time to the heavy beat of music, the bass thudding in their ears. He knows Tyler dislikes this scene but his attention is focused on one pairing, his eyes solely on Caleb and her.
Reid feels like screaming.
Caleb has her pressed against him, her mouth is lingering near his collarbone and Reid can see the faintest outline of a red mark that's just beyond her lips. He knows the mark, knows it well. He put it there, he made Caleb moan, made him come undone.
She's sliding along him, a drop of sweat beading down Caleb's temple, his dark eyes meeting Reid's from across the room. Reid curls his lip. He wants to hate him, wants to punish him for what he does. He hates himself for letting Caleb use him.
How does it feel to treat me like you do? When you've laid your hands upon me and told me who you are...
Reid can feel the sweat gathering on his neck, the creak of the glass bottle in his gloved hand, the weight of Caleb's eyes on him. He tips the bottle, gulping the contents down, his eyes glazed as he stares back, daring him without a word.
He was there before her; he'll be there long after she's gone. Reid licks his lips and thinks back, back before girls seemed important, back to when Caleb was his, before their Ascensions, before he knew how much it would hurt to be someone's secret.
Reid feels like yanking her away from him.
I thought I was mistaken. I thought I heard your words. Tell me, how do I feel?
He knows, Caleb knows. Reid knows of the girls who caught Caleb's fancy before. The names aren't important. He does the same, he uses them to show Caleb he's fine, can't he see that he's fine? He doesn't need him...
He won't say it, won't tell Caleb what he needs. He won't be the first to give, to break, to cave. He smirks as Caleb watches him, his gaze fixed on Reid instead of her. He hates her for being able to hold onto him, for having everything that he wants and she doesn't even know it.
Reid feels like leveling the club to the ground.
Caleb will come back, long after she's gone, he'll come. They'll argue, they always do, and Reid will rebuff him, spit insults and brush him off. He's angry, he's furious and bitter. He hates that Caleb knows him so well. Knows that he'll cave, that Caleb's whispered promises are all he hangs on to when the rage fades.
Reid closes his eyes and lets the music pulse through him. He thinks that maybe this time he won't give, won't cave, won't allow Caleb to feed him beautifully false words. Maybe this time, he'll turn his back and walk away.
And I thought I was mistaken, and I thought I heard you speak. Tell me how do I feel?
He knows Caleb is watching him still, a look of banked hunger deep in his eyes. Reid opens his eyes and laughs bitterly as he walks past Tyler. He knows this game and now...now it's too much. He'll be the one to walk away, to stop. This time he'll leave Caleb to her, to his fears, his insecurities.
Reid feels free, even if it does sting.
Tell me how does it feel when your heart grows cold?
